Dutypoint’s Contribution to the Water Projects Online Initiative
The Ballygowan Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) redevelopment, featured on Water Projects Online, exemplifies collaboration across the water industry to futureproof local wastewater infrastructure. Located in County Down, the £7 million upgrade addressed outdated infrastructure, insufficient capacity, and rising environmental compliance standards.
Designed for a 2045 population equivalent of 4,500, the new works feature a Combined Activated Sludge Plant (CASP), stringent ammonia treatment, odour mitigation, and a 62kW solar PV system. NI Water, Tetra Tech, GEDA Construction and Water Solutions Ireland worked with a comprehensive supply chain to deliver this high-spec facility.
Dutypoint contributed to the project by supplying a compact QuadraTANK® booster system, purpose-built to deliver potable service water for odour control systems, hose reels, and polymer dosing units. Its efficient, pre-assembled design supports compliance with Category 5 backflow regulations and reduces on-site build time.
Project Challenges
The Ballygowan WwTW project demanded consistent water pressure to support washdown and treatment operations across a compact, technically complex site. The design had to meet Category 5 backflow protection, strict ammonia discharge standards, and address limited installation access during phased construction.
Project Solution
Dutypoint supplied a fully integrated QuadraTANK® booster system with the following features tailored to the demanding wastewater environment:
- WRAS-approved tank with Category 5 AB air gap for potable water compliance
- Single multistage vertical booster pump mounted on mild steel baseplate with isolation and NRV
- Durable weatherproof GRP housing designed for wastewater environments with easy access features
- Local variable speed control panel with Invertek VSD and Beijer PLC for enhanced control and visibility
- Integrated lighting, heating, and drainage for all-weather performance
This turnkey unit was delivered ready for installation, minimising on-site disruption and providing sustainable performance throughout construction and full operation. The booster supports cleaning, sludge management, and other utility processes vital to ongoing plant compliance.
