Project Summary

Dutypoint supplied two key water booster systems, as part of a major £5 million redevelopment of Ballyronan Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) in County Durham. These systems supported utility demands, site hygiene, and operational reliability throughout construction and commissioning.

Dutypoint’s Contribution to the Water Projects Online Initiative

As featured on Water Projects Online, the Dalton Piercy Water Treatment Works (WTW) upgrade demonstrates the power of product-based delivery in the water sector. The site, which supplies around 32 Ml/d to homes and businesses in Hartlepool, required a rapid and robust solution to meet a Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) obligation for manganese removal.

Anglian Water’s @one Alliance employed offsite manufacturing principles and digital design tools to deliver a new pressure filtration system, complete with sodium hypochlorite dosing, dirty wash water management, and extensive M&E integration. Working collaboratively with these efforts, Dutypoint supplied a packaged pump station that could be prefabricated and delivered to site ready for rapid installation, helping reduce the time and risk associated with on-site works.

Project Challenges

The project was undertaken on a constrained site with critical underground assets and overhead power lines. All new infrastructure had to be installed while maintaining full water treatment output. Minimising time on site was essential, especially for elements requiring complex groundworks and service connections.

Project Solution

Dutypoint supplied a fully integrated packaged pump station designed to support drainage, wash water and final effluent movement across the new treatment stream. The vertical chamber was delivered complete with all internal pipework, control equipment and lifting gear pre-installed to speed up commissioning. Key features included:

  • Vortech GRP pump station with stainless steel pipework, pedestals, guide rails and isolation valves
  • Dual submersible drainage pumps with 3-phase motors and stainless steel casings
  • Pre-fitted float switches, ultrasonic bracket, level probes and lifting chains
  • Separate valve compartment integrated within the wet well chamber

The chamber was designed for reliability and ease of servicing, and was delivered as a plug-and-play solution to align with the project’s offsite build principles.
