Project Summary

The project, located near the Ballinderry River in County Tyrone, addressed significant challenges posed by ageing assets, increased population demands, and a site prone to flooding. Dutypoint delivered a compact, fully integrated potable wash water booster set for Derrycrin WwTW, supporting site utilities and washdown functions as part of a £3.2m infrastructure upgrade led by NI Water.

Dutypoint’s Contribution to the Water Projects Online Initiative

As featured on Water Projects Online, the redevelopment of Derrycrin Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) demonstrates how collaborative engineering and offsite manufacturing can support efficient, sustainable infrastructure delivery in the wastewater sector.

Water Projects Online is a digital platform dedicated to sharing best practice case studies and technical insights across the UK water industry. It features projects that push the boundaries of innovation, compliance, and delivery, with Derrycrin standing out for its confined-site construction, phased delivery, and modern treatment processes.

As a specialist partner, Dutypoint played a key role in supporting site operations by supplying a robust, self-contained potable water booster system to the scheme, designed to perform reliably throughout construction and long into the operational life of the new works. Our contribution helped ensure the site met operational and hygiene requirements through every stage of construction and beyond.

Project Challenges

Constructed within the footprint of the existing site, the new Derrycrin WwTW required tight phasing and compact plant solutions to ensure continuous wastewater treatment throughout. A key challenge was maintaining process compliance while installing new equipment during live operations. The confined and flood-prone site further complicated logistics, demanding offsite-assembled systems that were efficient, durable, and installation-ready.

Project Solution

Dutypoint provided a compact, pre-packaged potable wash water booster set housed within a weatherproof GRP kiosk finished in Holly Green. The design included dual lockable hatches, thermostatic heating, internal LED lighting, and segregated compartments for pumps and control equipment. Key features include:

  • AB air gap with vent and overflow, plus 2″ equilibrium float valve
  • Compact booster set with 2 vertical multistage pumps on stainless steel manifolds, including isolation valves, non-return valves, pressure transducers, and two pressure vessels
  • Control system with local panel, VSD, E-stop, remote stop, and volt-free fault/alarm contacts
  • TrueStandby® and QuikSwap™® features for minimal downtime
  • Stainless steel Y-strainer and integrated drainage gullies for easy servicing

The unit supports consistent potable water pressure across the site, critical for hygiene and operational processes, and was delivered pre-assembled for rapid on-site installation with minimal disruption.
