GRP Installation project

Underground system for high water pressures and deep invert solutions.

We provide heavy-duty solutions.

PROJECT SUMMARY

Contractors, CJ Furey LTD and Pellikaan Construction LTD, required the installation of two wastewater GRP pump stations at Bedford Greenacre Independent School. Working with Drainage and Civils Direct LTD, Dutypoint provided ‘Super Heavy’ duty, custom-built chambers to handle the high table water pressures and deep invert conditions.

PROJECT CHALLENGE

The GRP pump stations required positioning at significant depths therefore required a robust design that could withstand the deep invert conditions and high water table pressures. High water table pressures present a significant challenge when designing underground pump station solutions, as the chambers must withstand the forces exerted by the surrounding groundwater, especially given their deep underground placement. Without proper design, these chambers could become buoyant, crack, or fail, leading to water ingress or system failure.

In addition to the positioning and water table pressures, the system had to accommodate both vertical and horizontal chambers, each requiring dual grinder pumps for efficient operation. Finally, the heavy-duty requirements of the pump stations needed to be considered to ensure long-term durability.

PROJECT SOLUTION

Dutypoint designed, manufactured and supplied two wastewater Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) Pre-Packaged Underground Pump Stations, each built to ‘Super Heavy’ duty specifications to withstand the challenging conditions. GRP is a strong, durable, and corrosion-resistant material. Lighter than concrete, but similar in strength, it is ideal for underground conditions where it must withstand high water table pressures.

The first station was a vertical GRP chamber measuring 1.8m in diameter and 6.5m in depth, fitted with dual grinder pumps. The second station was a horizontal GRP chamber, measuring 1.8m in diameter and 10.5m in length, equipped with dual grinders and a GRP sump for wastewater storage. Together, these components allowed for reliable and efficient processing of wastewater from the school.

Our team liaised closely with Drainage and Civils Direct LTD to ensure optimal equipment design and precise installation to meet the specific demands of the site. Our ‘Super Heavy’ duty chambers were designed to handle the environmental pressures while ensuring a long-term, durable and efficient wastewater management solution for the school. In partnership with Drainage and Civils Direct, we were able to ensure the whole process from design to installation ran smoothly and without a hitch.
