Project Summary

To enable critical filter replacement works at Kinnerley WTW in rural Shropshire, Dutypoint provided a bespoke water booster set that formed part of a modular, temporary filtration system. This allowed the site to maintain its full output while key treatment infrastructure was taken offline.

Dutypoint’s Contribution to the Water Projects Online Initiative

Water Projects Online showcases cutting-edge case studies across the UK water sector, celebrating technical collaboration and resilience in infrastructure delivery. The Kinnerley Water Treatment Works (WTW) scheme, featured on  Water Projects Online, is a textbook example of how innovative, modular engineering can overcome site constraints and maintain water quality standards.

Located in rural Shropshire, Kinnerley WTW, treats around 4 ML/d of groundwater and required the replacement of ageing iron and manganese filters. To do this without impacting surrounding sources or customer supply, a temporary modular filtration system was deployed, supported by a suite of high-performance components. Dutypoint’s water booster set played a pivotal role in enabling this workaround, ensuring consistent system pressure and compliance during the intervention phase.

Project Challenges

The site’s remote, constrained footprint and the need to maintain full operational output limited conventional upgrade approaches. All enabling options that involved redirecting flow from neighbouring sources were ruled out due to the knock-on impact on the wider network. Instead, the team required a completely self-sufficient, temporary treatment system, one that had never been deployed before at this scale.

Project Solution

Dutypoint supplied a bespoke cold water booster set as part of the temporary modular filtration system. Compact, reliable and built to spec, the unit ensured consistent pressure throughout the treatment cycle and integrated seamlessly with the mobile setup. Key features included:

  • Dual efficient pumps with inverters ensured responsive pressure control
  • Stainless steel pipework with manifolds ensured long-term reliability
  • Pressure monitoring and control panel enabled consistent performance
  • Compact, skid-mounted design allowed fast deployment in tight conditions

By delivering a pre-assembled booster set tailored for this bespoke application, Dutypoint helped maintain site output during the replacement of the permanent filters. This approach ensured uninterrupted supply and created a reusable filtration solution for future schemes.
