Dutypoint’s Contribution to the Water Projects Online Initiative
Upgrades at Lletty Brongu and Ruthin Sewage Treatment Works (STWs), featured on Water Projects Online, highlight the application of innovative CoMag® ballasted clarification technology to meet new Natural Resources Wales (NRW) phosphorus permits.
Both sites required integration of new sewage treatment processes, including ferric sulphate and sodium bicarbonate dosing, polymer mixing, and CoMag® settlement, to improve total phosphorus (T-P) removal. Given the complexity and space constraints at the sites, reliable support systems were essential.
Dutypoint delivered custom cold water booster sets and insulated external storage tanks to support wash water supply, system cleaning, and treatment processes at both STWs. Our offsite-assembled, plug-and-play units ensured minimal disruption and robust performance across the twin-site programme.
Project Challenges
Integrating high-spec chemical and clarification technologies into two live operational sites posed logistical and installation challenges. The systems required consistent water pressure delivery for cleaning and dosing support, even under fluctuating process demand. Weather-resilient solutions and efficient deployment were critical to avoid delays and ensure long-term operability.
Project Solution
Dutypoint provided tailored cold water booster solutions and tanks suited for external installation and phosphorus treatment applications. These supported dosing, process water, and washdown functions throughout the commissioning and operation of the CoMag® system. Key features included:
- Large, insulated tanks with protection ensured safe, external water storage
- Dual 11kW pumps with inverters provided reliable, adaptable pressure
- Durable stainless steel manifolds controlled flow, ensuring longevity
- Skid design enabled rapid installation within the limited site space
By delivering ready-to-install systems, Dutypoint helped accelerate commissioning and ensure pressure reliability across both sites, enabling effective CoMag® treatment and permit compliance.
