Dutypoint’s Contribution to the Water Projects Online Initiative
As featured on Water Projects Online, the Lower Woodburn Wastewater Pumping Station (WwPS) upgrade showcases how collaboration, innovation and offsite manufacturing can help deliver modern wastewater infrastructure in sensitive environments.
Located near Carrickfergus on the Belfast Lough coastline, this project was a key component of NI Water’s Living with Water Programme (LwWP), which aims to protect against flooding, enhance the environment, and support economic growth.
Dutypoint played a key role by providing a robust wash water booster set designed to support new screening equipment at the pumping station, ensuring long-term hygiene and performance while operating in a highly constrained, operational site.
Project Challenges
The site footprint was extremely limited, bordered by a main road, a petrol station, and a residential property, with beach access running through it. Construction had to maintain continuous operation of the existing pumping station, while improving separation of storm overflows and accommodating future development. Space and safety constraints made offsite prefabrication essential. The wash water system needed to be compact, reliable, and easy to install within the tight layout.
Project Solution
Dutypoint delivered a QuadraTANK® wash water booster system, combining a weatherproof GRP housing with an integrated fixed-speed booster pump and 450L break tank. The unit featured 50mm insulation, a 500W heater and thermostat for temperature control, and WRAS Category 5 compliance with a screened AB air gap and spill weir to prevent contamination. Additional features included a 25m hose reel and adjustable washdown gun to support cleaning operations around the screen.
By providing the system as a pre-assembled external unit, installation was streamlined and disruption to site operations was minimised. The booster supports ongoing screen hygiene and system performance, playing a key part in maintaining compliance at this environmentally sensitive location.
