Project Summary

Dutypoint supplied a robust, weatherproof GRP MCC kiosk to support new chemical dosing and FE monitoring at Monkmoor STW, enabling regulatory compliance and secure housing for essential infrastructure.

Dutypoint’s Contribution to the Water Projects Online Initiative

Featured on Water Projects Online, the Monkmoor Sewage Treatment Works (STW) project demonstrates how forward-thinking retrofit solutions can help treatment facilities adapt to stricter environmental permits while preparing for population growth.

Serving over 116,000 people in Shrewsbury, Monkmoor STW is the UK’s first large-scale installation of MABR technology to boost ammonia removal. To complement the advanced treatment, new chemical dosing and final effluent (FE) monitoring systems were installed, requiring high-spec electrical infrastructure.

Dutypoint contributed a fully insulated Motor Control Centre (MCC) kiosk to house critical monitoring equipment, helping Severn Trent comply with a new 1 mg/l phosphorus permit while maintaining operational flexibility.

Project Challenges

The site upgrade required a compliant, durable kiosk to house electrical components supporting the phosphorus removal and iron monitoring system. The unit had to be installed within a compact site layout, integrate with existing cable runs, and offer protection against harsh weather conditions. Additionally, it had to be delivered within a tight construction window and coordinated with multiple contractors on a high-profile site rollout.

Project Solution

Dutypoint provided a monolith GRP kiosk with robust thermal and access features. Key specifications included 50mm Rockwool insulation, a Class 2 fire-retardant ply/GRP composite shell, and a white internal finish. Access was enabled through double doors and a transom access door, with secure locking and door stays.

The internal fitout included a 12-way SP consumer unit, frost-protected heating system, LED lighting (normal and emergency), and external 50W LED floodlight above the door. All circuits were installed on separate breakers to ensure system safety and performance. The kiosk was delivered and offloaded to site with full RAMS documentation, ensuring seamless integration.

This installation supports Severn Trent’s long-term goals to meet new phosphorus discharge limits and deliver improved water quality through cutting-edge treatment technology.
