PROJECT SUMMARY

To support the heating and hot water requirements of Orchards Academy in Swanley, Kent, Dutypoint supplied a fully integrated Packaged Plant Room. The system was designed to meet the academy’s CHWS (Central Heating and Water Supply) needs, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and sustainability through an offsite-built solution.

PROJECT CHALLENGES

The project, managed by BAM Construction, required a space-efficient and cost-effective heating and hot water system that could be installed with minimal disruption for Orchards Academy in Kent. Challenges included limited on-site space, the need for a fast-tracked installation to align with the project timeline, and ensuring a safe working environment by minimising on-site labour requirements.

Additionally, maintaining system efficiency, water quality, and long-term durability was critical to ensure optimal heating performance for the academy.

PROJECT SOLUTION

To overcome these challenges, Dutypoint delivered a Packaged Plant Room that was designed, built, and fully tested offsite before being transported to site. This offsite construction approach ensured the system was fully integrated and ready for installation, minimising disruption. The compact design efficiently utilised the available space while optimising performance.

By pre-assembling the plant room in a controlled factory setting, health and safety risks were significantly reduced, while installation time on site was kept to a minimum. The unit was pre-commissioned and tested, ensuring seamless integration and reliable operation from day one.

Key Components of the Packaged Plant Room:

  • Pumps: Ensuring consistent water circulation for heating and domestic hot water supply.
  • Vessels: Providing necessary water storage and pressure maintenance.
  • Dirt & Air Separators: Enhancing system efficiency by removing debris and separating air bubbles to prevent blockages and inefficiencies.
  • Dosing System: Allowing precise chemical treatment for water quality control, preventing corrosion, and ensuring long-term performance.
  • Pressurisation Units: Maintaining constant system pressure, preventing fluctuations that could impact heating efficiency.
  • Calorifiers: Efficiently heating water through high-performance heating coils, ensuring reliable hot water availability for the academy.

Products used in Orchards Academy case study

By incorporating these components within the pre-assembled Packaged Plant Room, Dutypoint provided a fully functional, plug-and-play heating and hot water system that aligned with Orchards Academy’s operational requirements and BAM Construction’s project goals.
