Project Summary

Dutypoint delivered a QuadraTANK® system with a VMV3-15 booster set to support washdown and maintenance functions at the new Queensferry inlet works, aiding compliance, hygiene, and future growth capacity.

Dutypoint’s Contribution to the Water Projects Online Initiative

As featured on Water Projects Online, the Queensferry Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) redevelopment highlights a comprehensive renewal of aging infrastructure to future-proof wastewater treatment for a growing North Wales population. The works, located on the banks of the River Dee, is undergoing major upgrades to handle more than 62,000 PE and accommodate mixed domestic and trade flows.

To support this critical inlet works overhaul, Dutypoint supplied a robust integrated booster set and break tank housed within a GRP-kiosk, to aid screen washdown operations and ensure system efficiency. The combined package was delivered as a pre-engineered unit, simplifying on-site installation and enhancing long-term reliability for the harsh operating environment.

Project Challenges

The inlet area faced persistent hydrogen sulphide (H2S) corrosion due to mixed gravity and pumped flows from multiple sources. Equipment degradation, odour control issues, and ageing infrastructure prompted a full replacement strategy. The new reception tank and inlet screens required a reliable water supply for cleaning operations and plant maintenance, delivered via a compact, WRAS-compliant system designed to perform in a high-H2S environment. Space, resilience, and compatibility with prefabricated structures were essential.

Project Solution

To meet the operational demands of the new inlet works, Dutypoint supplied a custom-built QuadraTANK® integrated with the VMV3-15 water booster set, combining reliable performance with a compact, offsite-assembled design. Key features of the solution:

  • 20,000 L insulated break tank with air gap protection
  • Compact water booster set with duty/assist/standby pump configuration
  • Built-in access and safety features for simplified maintenance
  • Offsite-built, pre-engineered unit for fast and efficient installation

This WRAS-compliant package was delivered pre-engineered for quick site installation, reducing disruption and aligning with Welsh Water’s project timeline. Now fully operational, the system supports effective screen washdown and long-term serviceability of the upgraded inlet facilities.
