Industry sector

Ministry of Defence (MoD)

Water Booster System

PROJECT SUMMARY

RAF Brize Norton urgently required a cold water booster solution, where delays and downtime were not an option. Dutypoint supplied a VT3 triple pump, variable speed cold water booster set from stock, and delivered within 3 working days. From specification to handover, Dutypoint supported smooth delivery, installation and commissioning free of project delays.

PROJECT CHALLENGES

RAF Brize Norton is a critical hub for the UK’s Air Mobility Force, supporting approximately 7,300 service personnel, civilian staff and contractors on a day-to-day basis. With much of the site’s infrastructure ageing and a major refurbishment program scheduled for 2026, maintaining operational continuity was paramount.

For the contractor, the immediate priority was turnaround and programme certainty. The MoD required a robust, compliant water pressure solution to be delivered and commissioned immediately to avoid any risk of downtime or project delays. Given the high-demand nature of the base, any failure in the water system could impact essential operations and personnel welfare.

PROJECT SOLUTION

To meet this critical deadline, Dutypoint supplied a VT3 Cold Water Booster Set directly from stock, achieving delivery in just three working days. This triple-pump, variable-speed system was specifically selected for its reliability and efficiency.

Key features include:

  • Duty/assist/standby configuration: Ensures built-in redundancy, vital for a high-security MoD.
  • Variable speed drives: Automatically adjusts to fluctuating demand for optimal energy efficiency and reduced mechanical wear. Read more on Variable Speed Drives in Pump Systems.
  • HMI touchscreen: Intuitive control and rapid system diagnostics, ensuring ease of operation by the station’s workforce.
  • Individual pump isolation: Allows for seamless maintenance and servicing without any interruption to the station’s critical water supply or operational continuity.
  • WRAS Approved: Full compliance with water safety regulations for booster sets.

As the first manufacturer to achieve WRAS approval for a booster set, Dutypoint provided a solution that guarantees top-tier quality and compliance. To provide long-term peace of mind, the client also opted for our Titanium 24-month warranty. Lorne Stewart Plc commissioned the system in August 2025 and has continued to perform exceptionally well since installation.

Not only was this solution supplied within an outstanding turnaround, but it has also provided a secure foundation for the base’s water infrastructure ahead of the upcoming 2026 site upgrades.
