PROJECT CHALLENGES
Twycross Zoo required a highly reliable and compliant water system to support a diverse range of facilities, from residential and staff areas to specialist laboratory and animal care environments. Each application introduced unique operational demands and varying levels of contamination risk, requiring a carefully coordinated system design.
Key challenges included:
- Diverse, tailored solutions were required from consistent potable water pressure in residential zones to specialist systems for laboratories and animal enclosures.
- Ensuring full Category 5 compliance. Laboratory and animal care posed a high risk of backflow contamination, requiring Cat 5 separation from the mains supply.
- Protecting the public water network. Systems needed to eliminate any risk of contamination entering the mains, in line with strict regulatory requirements.
- Maintaining consistent pressure and storage capacity. Residential and general-use areas required reliable pressure during peak demand, alongside sufficient stored water.
- Providing system visibility and operational monitoring. Performance tracking was essential to ensure safety, reliability, and early identification of potential issues.
- Integrating multiple systems into a unified infrastructure to meet operational, regulatory, and performance requirements across the site.
PROJECT SOLUTION
Dutypoint delivered a tailored combination of potable booster and Cat 5 break tank systems, designed to meet the varied operational demands and risk profiles across Twycross Zoo.
Our solution included:
- Potable water system for residential and general-use areas: VG3 booster set with a 6000L twin-compartment sectional tank to ensure consistent pressure, peak demand performance, and system resilience.
- Cat 5 system for the NSCC laboratory: WX2 ScubaTANK® providing full backflow protection, temperature monitoring, and level indication for safe, compliant operation.
- Cat 5 system for the Orangutan enclosure: WX2 ScubaTANK® sized to local demand while maintaining full compliance and operational visibility.
- Integrated monitoring and safety features: Temperature monitoring and high/low-level indication across CAT5 systems to support performance tracking and risk management.
- Physical separation of contaminated systems: AB air gap break tanks, ensuring complete protection of the mains water supply.
THE RESULT
By combining high-performance booster technology with compliant Cat 5 protection systems, Dutypoint delivered a resilient, easy-to-manage water infrastructure. The result supports safe potable supply, protects water quality, and meets the stringent operational requirements of both laboratory and animal care environments.
- Tailored systems met potable and specialist water demands across all site areas
- Cat 5 break tanks ensured compliance and protected the mains water supply
- Booster and storage systems maintained pressure, with monitoring ensuring visibility
Together, these elements formed a cohesive, compliant, and easy-to-manage solution across the entire site.
