Offsite Packaged Plant Rooms
Course aims
A CIBSE-approved CPD course explaining the principles, benefits, and practical application of offsite manufacture for building services, MEP plant, and packaged systems.
What the course covers:
- Offsite versus onsite construction
- Assessing design, coordination, and programme advantages
- Specifying and managing offsite assemblies
- Recognising how controlled factory environments improve health and safety
- Warranty, commission and installation
Key learning outcomes:
By the end of the session, delegates will be able to:
Understand the rationale for offsite manufacture
Compare offsite versus onsite construction.
Evaluate safety, quality, and environmental benefits
Recognise how controlled factory environments improve health and safety, allow for ISO9001/14001/45001 compliance and reduce carbon footprint.
Assess design, coordination, and programme advantages
Apply offsite design early in the RIBA stages (0–7), including 3D modelling, feasibility, spatial coordination, and pre-commissioning to shorten project programmes.
Specify and manage offsite assemblies
Understand structural steel requirements, enclosures, fire and acoustic ratings, and ensure assemblies meet BS EN 1090, welding standards and regulatory compliance.
Plan for commissioning, handover, and maintenance
Explore factory acceptance testing (FAT), pre-commissioning, single-point delivery, and integration of O&M documentation for simplified handover and warranty management.
Apply lessons from real projects
Review case studies demonstrating rationalisation, efficiency, and risk reduction achieved through offsite manufacture.
