Calculating pressure and flow requirements – Part 1

Author Lloyd Preston Calendar 29 October 2019

In this video, one of our Technical Sales Engineers, Frazer Ross, discusses the importance of accurately calculating pressure and flow requirements for building water supply systems before deciding whether to include a booster set in the system.

Hello, I’m Frazer Ross, and in this week’s 60 second knowledge booster I’m going to be talking a little more in detail on pressure and flow requirements. Now, you may be tempted to rely on over sizing the mains water supply pipe into your building, and rely on mains pressure

alone. Now, this isn’t necessarily wrong, but what will happen is that you will suffer the fluctuations in pressure that occur naturally from the mains water system throughout the day, and you’ll also suffer fluctuations in pressure when other users, perhaps in the same building,

use the mains water at the same time. Now, this can have a detrimental effect on your water flows through your fittings and in particular thermostatic showers where you will suffer varying temperatures. Now, next week I’ll be talking a little bit more in how to accurately determine flow requirements.
